Year Six
Welcome
Welcome to Year Six at St Chad’s Primary School. Meet our wonderful team and take a look around our classroom.
All about me
Hi, I’m Miss Gough and I LOVE teaching Year 6 because I love any opportunity where I can act like I’m 11 years old again. This includes dressing up and generally looking a bit silly, getting muddy and playing in Forest Schools and having lots of fun on residentials. Although I love all subjects, my favourites are English, Science and, of course, Forest School. I became a teacher to provide children with the opportunity to feel seen and heard and my main aim is to create a safe and loving classroom for all those who stop by. My life’s motto is: be kind, to others but also to yourself.
Curriculum Overview
What Am I Learning About This Half Term?
Homework
Daily:
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” ― Dr. Seuss, “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!”
It is almost impossible to overstate just how important reading is for children. Reading empowers the child, builds empathy, encourages imagination and lays the foundation for lifelong success. When children read and are read to, they develop vital language and literacy skills, which aid in their overall cognitive, social and emotional development. Aside from the vast educational benefits, reading is such a delightful activity for children, what wild wonder, thrills and joy can be found within a book!
In Year Six, at St Chad’s, we encourage children to read for at least twenty minutes every day; please prioritise this over any other homework.
Weekly:
In Year Six, we will hand out homework on Showbie every Thursday and this will be due back every Tuesday. This gives children the chance to ask any questions regarding homework on Friday and Monday. One task will be Maths-based and the other will be from across the curriculum. For more creative projects, we will give a longer deadline which will be stated on Showbie.
