Year Four
Welcome
Welcome to Year Four at St Chad’s Primary School!
All About Me
Hello! I am Mrs Palmer and I have been a teacher at St Chad’s for just over a
year now! I taught the wonderful Year 5 last year, and this year I am really
delighted to be teaching Year 4!
Before becoming a teacher, I worked at Birmingham Children’s Hospital as a Play
Specialist, and then as a Teaching Assistant for six years! These experiences
have led me to be really passionate about children’s well-being and mental health
and I hope to make every child in my class feel safe, happy and cared for; I
believe that this is the best foundation for learning. I love all of the primary
subjects, but I am especially passionate about reading and science!
In my free time, I like to spend time with my family and dog, take walks in the
Peak District, listen to music (loudly!) and relax with my nose in a book!
Curriculum Overview
What am I learning about this half term?
Homework
Daily:
- Children to read for at least twenty minutes each day – Reading daily can help to strengthen a child’s imagination, introducing them to concepts, cultures, and possibilities beyond their own life experience. And with the imagination being such a powerful force, there’s a lot to gain from that! They can learn about the world, stimulate their curiosity, and give them a better understanding of other people’s lives. When your child picks up a book, magical things happen in their brains. Reading for twenty minutes every day can be extremely effective in the long term and can help your child to develop great empathy, enrich their vocabulary and give them a healthy way of relaxing.
- Times Tables Practice – This can be done on Times Table Rock Star or any of other form of practice. We recommend that children practise for around ten minutes every day.
Weekly:
Each week in Year Four, I will set the children a task to complete from across the wider curriculum. This will be sent out via Showbie on a Thursday and due in the following Tuesday. This gives the children a chance to ask any questions about the homework on Fridays and Mondays. For more creative projects, I will specify a longer deadline.
