Year Two
Welcome
Welcome to Year Two at St Chad’s Primary School!
All About Me
Hello, I am Miss Cornwell and this is my fourth year at St Chad’s now – can you believe it?! I am very excited to teach Year 2 this year after spending lots of time in KS2. I have a passion for reading and writing and I aim to instil this love within all the children in my class through reading exciting books and creating exciting lessons! I also love geography and can’t wait to take Y2 on some exciting fieldwork opportunities this year.
I love being outside, and I greatly appreciate the benefit being outdoors has on children’s mental health. Where possible, I love taking learning outside and giving children opportunities to work in different environments and inspire their creativity. You may also catch me outside swimming outside of school, where I love to explore places to wild swim.
Curriculum Overview
What will I be learning this half term?
Homework
Daily:
Reading –
Reading is incredibly important to children, as soon as children can read the world is their oyster! We prioritise reading at school, through protected story time each day as well as ensuring children are reading engaging and exciting books within English and across the curriculum!
To support children’s fluency and phonics knowledge, we ask for children to read a minimum of 5 minutes per day. We ask that a record is added into children’s reading diaries. Children will be rewarded for reading 5 x per week, with special treats linked to our book corner.
Weekly:
Across the Curriculum – Homework from across the wider curriculum will be set weekly on Showbie. This will go out on a Thursday and be due in the following Tuesday. For more creative projects, I will specify a longer deadline.
Maths – A maths challenge will be set each week based upon current or previous learning the children have completed. This will be set on Showbie. Homework will go out on a Thursday and be due back in on a Tuesday.
